Attention Business Editor For Immediate Release SaskCentral Wins Award for Entrepreneurial Foundation and Fund Project REGINA, May 18, 2006 - SaskCentral is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Project Management Proficiency Award by PMI (Project Management Institute) Regina South Saskatchewan Chapter. It received the award for the work it did on behalf of the Saskatchewan credit union system on its Economic Development Project. This project was initiated to find a way to help build Saskatchewan’s shrinking communities. A shrinking population has an obvious impact on the credit union system, as both people and wealth continue to leave the province. So the SaskCentral board of directors made economic development a key area of focus, and in November 2003 approved a high level economic development strategy on behalf of the Saskatchewan credit union system. As a result of the work on this strategy, the credit union system partnered with the private and public sectors and launched the Entrepreneurial Foundation of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Entrepreneurial Fund in November, 2005. Entrepreneurs with ideas for new or expanding businesses, who need investment funds of up to $1 million to build that business, will go to the Entrepreneurial Foundation of Saskatchewan. With the advice and mentoring of the Foundation’s employees and/or advisors from the business community, the entrepreneur will develop a business plan which is sent on for investment funding to the Saskatchewan Entrepreneurial Fund. SaskCentral CEO Sid Bildfell congratulated Project Manager Donna Sarauer and the rest of the project team for their award-winning work on this project, and congratulated the entire Saskatchewan credit union system as well. “Saskatchewan credit unions have always taken a leadership role in keeping Saskatchewan communities strong. This project is one more example of how we have used our networks throughout the province, and leveraged the resources of both the public and private sectors to develop concrete solutions.” SaskCentral is a democratic financial co-operative which supplies research, development, support, consulting services and financial liquidity management and acts as a trade association to the province’s credit unions. There are currently 88 Saskatchewan credit unions serving more than 526,000 members. - 30 - For more information, contact: Ian Monteith at 306-566-1525 |
