Saskatchewan Credit Unions, New Corporate Sponsor at Regina Exhibition Park

Regina Exhibition Association Ltd. today announced a 10 year, $500,000 sponsorship agreement with Saskatchewan credit unions. As a result of the sponsorship agreement, the new Multi-Purpose Facility, which was officially opened this past June, will be named the Credit Union Eventplex.

The announcement was made on Credit Union Day, an annual event that recognizes credit unions internationally.

“As a venue for sports, cultural, trade and educational events, the Credit Union Eventplex will have long term benefits in terms of healthy lifestyles, personal achievement, commercial growth and pride in our communities. Saskatchewan credit unions welcome this opportunity to invest in our future and make our province an even better place to live, “said Keith Nixon, Vice-president, Democratic Support / Corporate Secretary for SaskCentral.

“Regina Exhibition Park is proud of the long-term relationships being developed within Saskatchewan’s business community”, said Jack Ritenberg, Regina Exhibition Association Vice Chair. “Today’s announcement with Saskatchewan credit unions is one more positive step towards a renewed future for the Park, which includes facility enhancement and growth as identified in our Board of Directors’ long-range plan”.

The Credit Union Eventplex provides for flexible trade show, convention and recreational space that has been instrumental in securing national events such as the Tim Horton’s Brier in 2006, and the 2007 Canadian Gymnastics Championships to the province.

The Credit Union Eventplex is 90,000 square feet with 35 foot high ceilings and features bleacher seating for 1,000 people. In the three months the facility has been open, it has been used for the Western Canada Farm Progress Show, Buffalo Days and as the wrestling venue during the Jeux du Canada Summer Games. It is estimated that the Credit Union Eventplex will host over 600,000 visitors annually.

The construction of the facility was jointly funded under the federal Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund (CSIF) as an urban revitalization initiative. The federal, provincial and municipal governments contributed $5 million, $4 million and $3 million respectively. CSIF supports major projects of regional or national significance that help to sustain economic growth and enhance Canadians’ quality of life.
